Mission Observer Training This Training will help you with the knowledge part of the Mission Observer Training. The presentation below will guide you through the many duties of a Mission Observer. Mission Pilots are not required to be a Mission Observer to carry out their duties, however it is strongly reccomended that you take an ACUT training course. This training is not intended to replace the classroom course offered by many squadrons. A classroom ground school is still required even after you have gone through the slides. An Observer's primary responsibility is to perform the visual search of the missing aircraft from the right seat, next tothe pilot, however there are several more responsibilities than that of a scanner. The observer will assist the pilot in many duties such as planning the mission, coordinating with Air Traffic Control, and programming the instruments when called upon. Because of this, it is important that the observer understand the aircraft just as well as the pilot does. An Basic Communications Unit Training course is required to operate the Civil Air Patrol Radios. This training is seperate from the training given at a Mission Observer Ground school offered by Squadron 5. This course will take you through aircraft familiarity, including basic aerodynamics, Emergency Procedures, and Civil Air Patrol Procedures. If there are any questions, please refer them to your mentor. SQTR Worksheet: Mission Observer (Please Print out before attending a ground school) ACUT/BCUT Radio Operator Authorization Training Course Length: Approximately 3 to 6 Hours Observer References: Other Documents: Mission Scanner/Observer Worksheet
